We're in the last leg of 2018, but there are a lot more games on the way to keep our PCs warm during the colder, darker nights ahead. This is the time when many of the biggest releases come along to take advantage of the holiday spending mood, which puts games such as Fallout 76, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Battlefield 5 within this final stretch.
There are exciting games from non-giant developers ahead, too, such as Griftlands and Super Meat Boy Forever. The point is: there are a lot of new games to pick from as the year winds down, and none of us have time to play all of them. Well, maybe one person does, and we'd like to meet them, but the rest of us have to be choosy. So which are you going to pick?
For this week's Q&A, we're asking: What unreleased 2018 game are you most excited for? Below are a few answers from the PC Gamer staff—let us know in the comments what you're eyeing.
I upgraded to windows 10, after a month i got a notification my drive was full. I have a 2tb hard drive so i was concerned. I checked my drives and everything was installed on my 125gb ssd. Tried this but the option is greyed out. Tried to downgrade to windows 8 but i am too late! Now i have a 2tb hdd i cant use because of microsoft -. How to change default hard drive windows 8. Whenever you save a new file in Windows 10, the Save As window defaults to whichever of your user folders–Documents, Music, Pictures, and so on–is appropriate to the file type. If you’d rather not save files on the C: drive, though, Windows lets you create those folders on another hard drive to act as your default save location. So after adding the SkyDrive, DropBox or any folder as the default save folder of Libraries, as you do Save As or Save the newly added location will pop along with the prevailing ones. Steps to change the Default Save Folder for Windows 8 Libraries to Something Else (like SkyDrive folder) 1.
Jarred Walton: The Bard's Tale 4: Barrow's Deep
I'm becoming a creature of nostalgia, and sequels and updates to games from my youth make me happy. I loved many of Interplay's old games in the '80s and '90s, and The Bard's Tale was one of the first RPGs I can remember playing. Naturally, I backed the Kickstarter, and I'm counting down the remaining days before the game arrives. Wes's preview of the game only makes me want to play it more, though I did play through (and beat!) the remastered Tales of the Unknown in preparation. It's like a modest indie game in today's market, but still enjoyable, and the quality of life features (like an integrated automap) make it far less painful than back in the '80s. Basically, I'm planning to relive my childhood, with better graphics and sound.
I'm also looking forward to Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Battlefield 5, not because I'm likely to love either game, but because I want to check out the ray tracing effects and do some testing on Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX cards. The previews were impressive on many levels, but often felt a bit like I had a choice between 'ultra ray tracing' quality and 'medium disable simulated reflections' quality. In practice, I'm not sure the improved shadows and reflections are really going to blow me away.
Jody Macgregor: Pathfinder: Kingmaker
A couple of my favorite games have been adaptations of tabletop RPGs (Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodlines and Shadowrun: Dragonfall), so I'm always down for another one. And Pathfinder seems perfect for videogame adaptation, since its rules are fussy and full of complexity for its own sake and I'd rather have a computer handle them than have to think about them myself, while its setting is full of neat ideas. Like Outsea, which is a settlement created by a species of saltwater aquatic people who tried to cross the land in a magical seawater bubble but became stranded in the River Kingdoms and just decided to stay. Kingmaker's combat is real-time with pause, which I've never been a fan of, but I'll look past it for a game in a cool setting.
Chris Livingston: Fallout 76
I'm both excited and curious to see how Fallout 76 will really work. I'm not super interested in base-building, or even that keen on multiplayer, but I'm looking forward to exploring the world and seeing what it has to offer. I've got plenty of concerns, too: Bethesda's singleplayer Fallout games have always been an enjoyable exercise in roleplaying, and I'm not sure how that will carry over into a game where all the other characters are actual human players. I can't say I don't really wish Fallout 5 was coming out this year instead, but I'm definitely still looking forward to 76.
Samuel Roberts: Also Fallout 76
It is undoubtedly the first multiplayer Fallout, and even though I've heard it explained in several presentations by Bethesda's Todd Howard and some faux Vault-Tec videos, it still feels like an unknown quantity to me. I know I'll enjoy venturing across this massive landscape with a friend or two, but what will I be doing 50 hours into the game? Quests? Fighting the next settlement over? Looking for nuclear codes? It's still hard to reconcile what it'll be like versus playing a traditional Fallout game when we haven't had hands-on with 76 yet, and story and setting are what I love most about Fallout. That said, I love the idea of a 'live' Fallout where we might have limited time events and other fun stuff to keep me playing months later.
Joe Donnelly: Football Manager 2019
What are the chances of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC? That's a question I hope gets answered sooner rather than later because, honestly, that's the game I'm most looking forward to in the remaining months of 2018. But, until that's answered, my most anticipated upcoming PC game is Football Manager 2019.
I loved the fundamental changes introduced by FM 2018, which extended our managerial responsibilities past the pitch and into the dressing room and beyond. I suspect this year's installment will follow suit, and I hope it dives deeper still into the personalities of its players and backroom staff. Sports Interactive head honcho Miles Jacobson often generates hype around this time of year via his personal Twitter account, but this post also has me excited. Who knows what that entails, but I guess we'll find out on November 2.
James Davenport: Forza Horizon 4
It's car time, baby. Horizon 3 was the most fun I've had driving recklessly since Burnout Paradise, and I'm betting Horzion 4 will enable me to be just as much of a fool, if not more. A new 'seasons' system means it could be summer one week and winter the next, which should do nicely to freshen things up as I bash my way through the events (read our recent interview on the topic for more). Better yet is the new multiplayer system. Actual players will appear in your game, somewhat similar to Destiny 2's social locations. Cars cannot dab, so I'm afraid Horizon 4 won't be a meme generator, but giving strangers the ability to t-bone me at any point is a perfect fit for the open world shenanigans the series is known for.
I don't expect much to surprise me car-wise. They have wheels, they go fast, some drive better on roads, others better off roads—as long as I don't feel pressure to do anything except exactly what I feel like, Forza Horizon 4 will be my end-of-year panacea, a relaxing denouement after stabbing innumerable people in the neck in Tomb Raider and performing daily chores for glowing polygons in Destiny 2.

Captain John Price is a main fictional character in the Call of Duty series, being one of three characters to be featured in all of the games in the Modern Warfare series, the others being Captain John 'Soap' MacTavish and Nikolai. Price first ranked as a lieutenant, and served as a sniper under the orders of Captain MacMillan, participating in a mission to assassinate Ultranationalist Leader Imran Zakhaev in Pripyat, Ukraine in 1996. He was then promoted to a Captain and took charge of a Special Air Service squad, codenamed 'Bravo Team', which included Captain John 'Soap' MacTavish, before being held prisoner in a Russian gulag after Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish. After being rescued by Task Force 141 from the gulag, he was then assigned to Task Force 141 but was considered a war criminal after he and Captain MacTavish killed General Shepherd. He then participated in a joint operation with Delta Force's Team Metal, rescuing Alena Vorshevsky, and her father, who was the Russian President, after they had been kidnapped by Makarov and his forces. He then killed Vladimir Makarov in a hotel in January 2017.

Character design[edit]
The character is said to have been based upon British SAS soldier John McAleese,[1] who was involved in the Iranian Embassy siege and also co-hosted the television series SAS: Are You Tough Enough? in 2003. He is also a reference to a similarly looking character in the famous war film A Bridge Too Far.[2] Price's callsign, Bravo Six, is a direct reference to the 1986 war movie Platoon, in which Captain Harris' callsign is exactly the same as Price's. John Price was voiced by actor Billy Murray.
In an interview with Sami Onur, a character designer for Infinity Ward, the explanation was provided that John Price is the grandson of the Price who appeared in early Call of Duty games, though this has not yet been confirmed by Infinity Ward staff.[3] In the early developments of Modern Warfare 2 (MW2), Price was scheduled to be the player's commander, not 'Soap' MacTavish, as he was supposed to be the playable character instead of Roach. This is further explained in the artbook for MW2.[4]
Personality[edit]
Price is known to be ruthless towards his enemies. This can be seen when he tells Captain MacMillan that he was going to 'kill them all' after MacMillan asked him what he was going to do with all of the equipment that he had acquired. However, he is also a man who can be funny at some times, often cracking jokes during missions. Price is also a very caring man. Although he seemed to be very hostile to Soap when they first met, they eventually became the best of friends, and Price was devastated over his death. Price is also very serious and thoughtful. On what was to be a 'death mission', Captain Price gave a short speech to Soap about how knowing how and when he will die is not a curse, rather a blessing, and how that 'this land' (afghanistan) will remember what they did on this mission.
Appearances[edit]
Original Modern Warfare timeline[edit]
In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Captain Price serves as the commanding officer of primary protagonist John 'Soap' MacTavish. He is also the player character for two flashback missions set in Pripyat in 1996, exploring an assassination attempt on main antagonist Imran Zakhaev. At the conclusion of the game, he is severely wounded in a tanker truck explosion, but passes an M1911 pistol to Soap so he can kill Zakhaev.
Price survives this incident, and is encountered again in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. He is discovered imprisoned by terrorist Vladimir Makarov after an attempt to capture him gone awry, and joins Task Force 141 in an attempt to stop a war between the United States and Russia. However, Task Force 141 is betrayed by their commanding officer, General Shepherd, who orchestrated the war in order to raise American patriotism and become a war hero. Price and Soap embark on a suicide mission to kill Shepherd and avenge their comrades; they succeed in doing so, although Task Force 141 is disavowed and they are labelled terrorists.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Price and Soap ally with Yuri, an ex-Spetsnaz operative, and Team Metal, a Delta Force fireteam, to kill Makarov and clear their names. During an assassination attempt in Prague, Makarov reveals he has a history with Yuri and kills Soap. Price learns that Yuri was formerly an associate of Makarov, but betrayed him during a terrorist attack on a civilian airport. The two work with Team Metal to rescue the Russian president and his daughter from Makarov, ending the war and clearing their names; Team Metal is killed in the battle. Several months later, Price and Yuri launch an assault on a hotel owned by Makarov and finally kill him at the cost of Yuri's life.
New Modern Warfare timeline[edit]
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), Captain Price returns as a playable character in the campaign, which takes place in a new timeline.[5] He is currently portrayed by actor Barry Sloane. [6]
Other appearances[edit]
An Xbox 360 avatar based upon Captain Price is available for purchase.[7]Machinima posted a video in YouTube entitled 'Captain Price Plays Halo 3', part of their Call of Duty and Halo crossover series, with other Call of Duty characters portrayed playing Halo.[8] Captain Price also appears in the mobile game Call of Duty: Heroes as the first hero to be unlocked and has a statue skin that can be unlocked for 250 Celerium. There is also a Captain Price outfit for the Stryker Rig in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Reception[edit]
The character was well received by video game publications and fans alike. This praise included Captain Price being ranked as eight on Game Informer's list of '30 Characters Who Defined a Decade'[9] and voted as 17th top video game character of all time in Guinness World Records 2011 Gamers' Edition.[10] He was also one of the 64 characters chosen for GameSpot's 'All-Time Greatest Sidekick' poll,[11] while voted as the eighth-top character of the 2000s decade by Game Informer's readers,[12] and Complex in 2013 ranked Price as the 26th greatest soldier in video games.[13] In 2008, The Age ranked Price as the eighth-greatest Xbox character of all time, calling him 'the most familiar of the Call of Duty supporting cast and a damn fine army man indeed' and saying 'What a guy; what a [mous]'tache.'[14] A GamesRadar's article demanded 'a whole game' exclusively starring Price because 'Call of Duty 4 's best dialogue comes from Captain Price' as well as its 'best missions are the ones in which you play as Captain Price.'[15] GamesRadar's staff further placed him at number 41 in a list of the 50 best game characters of the generation, commenting, 'Arguably no other character in the history of games goes harder than Captain John Price. .. Truly, the man is a badass.'[16] He was also ranked as the 48th 'most memorable, influential, and badass' protagonist in video games history.[17]
